Rainbow Sugar Plum Lap Quilt | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished or Not Friday where you can share your finished {or not} projects!

My Finish is a Sugar Plum lap quilt made as part of the Fat Quarter Shop's Sugar Plum Block Challenge.  The challenge was to take a block designed by Joanna of Fig Tree Quilts and make something with it.

Here is the original Sugar Plum block.

My rainbow version is made with a Kona Brights layer cake with one additional purple added, and the blocks were sized down a bit to make the design layer cake friendly.  Background is Kona Ash, and if you're thinking it looks like the sashing is a different gray, you would be correct.  The jelly roll had two shades of gray in it.  Weirdest . thing . ever.  But I'm okay with it because I noticed it in time to use that for some of the sashing and border so it looks uniform enough.

I am smitten with Wandering Spirals, my new go-to quilting pantograph.  Melissa of Happy Quilting can quilt like this freehand!  I'd been looking for a spiral design ever since I got Gratitude, and I finally found it.  You will be seeing this design many times over, I am sure.

Quilt Stats:

Pattern:  Sugar Plum Block
Size:  44" x 58"
Fabric:  Kona Brights layer cake with Kona Ash.
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly
Quilting:  Wandering spirals on Gratitude.

Oh Myra,
This quilt finish is beautiful!! I love all the colors, especially with the gray to offset them. And the quilting looks great. Do you find that the pattern on the backing fabric help as reference points during quilting? Of course, who quilts from the backside?! Just curious how your rows are so perfectly straight? It really looks beautiful. ~smile~ Roseanne

I love this quilt, having the two grays in the sashing worked out well. You placed it well and gives the quilt an ombre feel. Between Shannon and you, if I start buying solids, I know who to blame, oh I mean "inspired". I love the spiral quilting and is just perfect for the quilt.
